Geography Western Range Wines is situated in the picturesque Lower Chittering Valley of Western Australia. The valley is just under an hour north east of Perth in the viticulture region of “Perth Hills”. The grapes are grown on selected sites along the narrow valley in the Darling Range at altitudes varying from 220 metres to 300 metres above sea level. The soils are predominantly brown loam over clay, with significant granite outcrops. This being very different from nearby viticultural regions, which are dominated by sandy soils. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with cool to cold wet winters and warm dry summers with cold nights. Rainfall occurs mostly in winter and spring, with less likelihood of rain during the important growing and ripening season of November to April. However, climate varies significantly with altitude and the different terrain within the region. In the hills and valleys, winter frosts ensure good fruit set and the warm summers and cold nights guarantee grape ripening. Varieties Grape varieties currently being used are: Shiraz, Organic Shiraz (other organic varietals available soon), Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Carnelian, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Viognier and Semillon Philosophy · To consistently produce wines that over deliver on quality for price. · Providing the market with real value. · Produce wines of extra depth and elegance through varied fruit harvesting and innovative wine making techniques, designed to maximise the impact of the primary fruit flavours. · Ensure that the fruit quality is of the highest standard by working in partnership with our fruit sources.
